Organic pasteurized milk and organic UHT milk – which type should you choose for your child?
Pasteurization and UHT sterilization are two modern milk processing methods designed to ensure safety and extend the shelf life of milk. So how are pasteurized milk and UHT milk different? How does the quality compare with freshly expressed raw milk?
1. What is UHT organic milk?
UHT organic milk is milk that is processed at a high temperature of 138 – 141°C for 2 – 4 seconds. It is then rapidly cooled and packed in special sterile packaging.
UHT organic milk can be stored at room temperature for 6 months to 1 year.
The vitamin content of UHT organic milk is reduced somewhat during processing, but the loss is not significant.
2. What is pasteurized organic milk?
Pasteurized organic milk is freshly expressed milk that is processed at a lower temperature of 72 – 90°C for about 15 – 30 seconds. It is then rapidly cooled down to 4°C and packed into containers.
Pasteurized organic milk must be kept refrigerated at around 2 – 6°C and should be consumed within a short period of about 40 – 70 days.
Because it is processed at a lower temperature, pasteurized organic milk retains almost all of the important vitamins and minerals found in milk, while still preserving the naturally rich and delicious flavor of organic milk.
3. Should you choose UHT or pasteurized organic milk for your child?
Depending on each family’s needs, both pasteurized and UHT organic milk have their own advantages, as shown in the table below:
In terms of nutritional composition, both UHT and pasteurized organic milk contain high levels of nutrients and are very good for the health of the whole family. Therefore, when deciding which type of milk to choose, you should consider your child’s taste preferences as well as your family’s usage context. If you want to enjoy the original, 100% pure milk flavor, pasteurized organic milk will be the optimal choice. Meanwhile, UHT organic milk often comes in a variety of added flavors, allowing your child to enjoy a different taste every day.
Because pasteurized organic milk requires more careful storage, it is more suitable for use at home or in environments where a refrigerator is available. On the other hand, you can let your child drink UHT organic milk anytime, anywhere — at school, at work, or when going out.
Currently, Solomon International imports both pasteurized and UHT organic milk lines so that parents can easily choose the most suitable option for their children. You can purchase them at Solomon’s distribution system nationwide or find out more on the website: https://solomonorganic.com/
